I Hear You is a Mental Health Organization Focused on Making a Difference

Mental Health influences the overall well-being and quality of life of you and those around you. Join us in making a positive impact on that influence.

About us

We are a group of Mental Health First Aid certified allies who identify as educational and personal resources willing to help anyone. We may not know your story or where you come from, but we are in your corner and will listen non-judgementally.

What we do

I Hear You members are here to help.

I Hear You aims to cultivate a compassionate collective of informed mental health allies, dedicated to shaping a more hopeful tomorrow. The vision is to educate individuals in Mental Health First Aid to enable them to foster a safer environment, now and in their futures. By surrounding the mission and vision with people who have a heart for others and want to make an impact in their communities, I Hear You members are passionate and prepared.
The Process

Here is how I Hear You is making a difference:

01

Get students, staff, and faculty certified

I Hear You focuses on getting its members Mental Health First Aid certified so that they can become educated allies for other members in their community. This certification equipts its members with a crisis action plan that they are ready to use when needed.

02

Identify certified members with green tags

Once certified, members will receive green tags that identify them as I Hear You members who are willing to be resources to anyone who needs them. Any person in the community that sees the tag will know that they are a certified resource.

03

Create a direct line of communication

I Hear You partners with counseling centers so that certified members are able to be the boots on the ground for the counselors. They are able to direct severe/crisis cases directly to their counselors without any questions or wait time.

04

Start the conversation about mental health

By adding mental health resources and passionate allies into communities, we work to normalize conversations about mental health and encourage outreach for help.

Participants

Words from I Hear You members:

Lexi Betz, Malone University '22

I Hear You is changing the way mental health struggles are acknowledged, supported, and prevented. The project brought light to just how important educating myself on the realities of mental struggles is, which gave me the opportunity to become MHFA certified. This certification has not only taught me how to best support those around me, but also how awareness of my own mental health is vital to my holistic wellbeing.

Alex Carlson, Northwood University '27

From the moment I heard about the I hear you project I was interested. It is easy to see the effects of physical damage in the people around you, but so many mental struggles go unnoticed. A program that is helping people identify and help, and truly changing the way society interacts… that is a program worth having.

Andy Sovis, Northwood University Counseling Director

Having I Hear You at Northwood is bigger than helping the counseling center alone. It shows that we, as a united university, care about the mental health of each student and staff member on our campus. I Hear You changes the lives of the certified members just as much as it does the people that they help.
